Year 5 have been learning all about World War II. Mrs Waddell’s mother came in and spoke to all of us about being a child during the war. We learnt so much about life in the war as she was our age when the war happened. She explained the different kinds of gas masks that were worn. the different air raid shelters and what
Year 5 and 6 had a wonderful afternoon celebrating Christmas and the end of a very busy term. We danced our socks off and sang our hearts out!
It is really important that the children understand why they are learning maths and how their learning can help them in real life. Each term, the whole school will focus on a real life aspect of maths and this term the focus was money.
Each year group / class chose a different aspect of money to focus on and objective they wanted the children to grasp.

Year 4 took our learning outside today and had a great time using the resources and fire pit. Safety first as we followed the rules of the fire pit to toast giant marshmallows! We then did a bit of magic and used chemicals and changed the colour of the flames to blue and green! We used our problem solving skills and worked as teams

Today Santa came to visit Southwick Community Primary School. We had an amazing time chasing Santa today-lots of smiles and laughter, but of course we couldn’t catch him as he’s magic!

Y3 have been set a variety of missions to help Santa and save Christmas for Southwick and the rest of the world. Santa has lost all of his map so the Y3 children helped him to locate the countries and capital cities of the UK. They have also researched which European countries celebrate Christmas and have located these on a map for him too!
We are looking forward to our next mission.
