Year 4 Celebrate World Book Day

Some of our year 4 and 5 children took part in a games event at the Beacon of Light. They took part in a range of different games and activities and demonstrated great sportsmanship. They had a fantastic time!
In our English lessons we have been outside litter picking, because we have been heartbroken about the litter on the boulevard. We decided we wanted to try to persuade Sunderland City Council to provide our School boulevard with an extra bin to help the animals and humans in our local area. As part of anti bullying week class 12 have enjoyed wearing odd socks without fear of judgment from others. We have talked about celebrating differences and how we are all unique and difference before designing our own anti bullying posters.
We are loving our new electricity Science topic this half term. Today we investigated how to turn on a light bulb by making our own circuit. We had lots of fun experimenting how to connect the battery, wires and lightbulb ensuring we made a complete circuit for the lightbulb to turn on. Take a look at us in action.
In year 4 we have been reading the book ‘Where the poppies now grow’ by Hillary Robinson. We have explored the text and used our senses to see, hear and smell to describe what it would have been like to be a solider on the battlefield. We have had so much fun at the beach. We went on rock hunts, practiced our balancing skills making rock towers, learnt about fire safety toasting marshmallows and even dipped our toes in the sea. Take a look at us in action.
We have loved learning all about Grace Darling and how she saved 9 people in 1838. We thought she was an inspiration and have used our class timeline to order events in her life and discuss what it would have been like to live in the Victorian era, even trying on some Victorian clothes and using household objects. We can not wait to learn
We have been so excited in school this week as we had some mystery eggs arrive! We have been investigating the eggs and learnt they were duck eggs! We have been keeping a close eye on the eggs and have loved watching them wiggle and hatch. We have named our ducks Stripy, Shadow and Cooly, we love to watch them grow and have impressed
Year 1 were invited to attend an English session with Monkwearmouth Academy, and had so much fun! Together with the Year 11 children they read stories, created characters from the story and even went on a secret word hunt using invisible ink!
