Year 1 celebrate World Book Day

This week we have been learning all about physical and human features. We went exploring across Southwick and identified different features in our local area, and classifying them between things that are natural and things that have been built. Take a look at us in action.
This week Year 1 learned all about keeping our teeth healthy and the importance of brushing twice a day. We discussed the importance of water and drinking less sugary drinks like juice and flavoured water. We are looking forward to starting to teeth brush in school next term.
Year 1 have loved our English lessons this term. We have been exploring the story The Tiger who came to tea. We have been exploring adjectives and used these in our writing to describe the tiger. We have re told the story through story maps and acting it out, then we even hosted our own tea party with our grown ups where we made
Year 1 loved the Science Bods show, learning about the seasons and animal groups. We had so much fun taking part in the Science Bods workshop learning all about science, through dance.
Year 1 has been learning all about different types of materials and their properties. We have been conducting experiments to what materials were waterproof and could float. We used our knowledge on materials to design our own boats, before making them and testing them to see if they would float. We were so excited to see that all our boats floated!
We have loved reading the story of The Little Red Hen. We have retold the story through writing retells and drama performances. We learnt how bread is made and where flour comes from, exploring the process of grain to bread. We even made our own bread, however unlike the story The Little Red Hen we worked together as a team to make the bread,
Year 1 have been learning about Remembrance, ready for the 11th November. We had lots of discussions about WW1, the poppy and what it represents. We were fascinated so we created our own poppies. We walked down to the Cenotaph and placed our poppies to show our respects.
We had so much fun on Friday, when a Judo teacher came into school and taught us some Judo moves. We loved practicing the different maneuvers safely. Take a lot at us in action!
To celebrate Halloween we have made our own pumpkins. We used clay to create the shape and detail on the pumpkin, then learn how to tint and tone colours to make them lighter and darker. Once our pumpkins were dry we used our new tinting and toning skills to paint different shades of orange and green onto our pumpkins! We can not wait to
