Today we learned that electricity is the flow of electrons around a circuit so we became a circuit and used an energy stick to see the electrons flow! We matched circuit symbols to their real life counterparts and used circuit components to make simple circuits.
Our Year 5 Mini Police members had a trip to remember this week, going out to the airport to see the Police Helicopter!
On Wednesday the KS2 show club took part in the Sunderland Dance festival, which took place at the Sunderland Empire. The girls worked very hard rehearsing and making their costume and had a fantastic day performing and being able to go back stage at the empire! Well done girls, you did Southwick very proud.
Year 6 bought some caterpillars from Insect Lore and they were set free as beautiful butterflies today
For the last 2 weeks Year 2 have been getting ready for the Jubilee! We have learnt lots about the Queen and have use our skills to help make decorations for our Jubilee party. We have also used our DT skills to make a beautiful napkins for the party, we evaluated other napkins then designed our own. We tie dyed fabric Then we practiced
Year 4 have been learning all about rivers. We have looked at the structure of a river and some famous rivers from around the world.
As we are lucky enough to live close to a river, we decided to walk along and look at the different features we could see. We visited the mouth of the River Wear at Roker and then walked back along the river towards Southwick. We noticed how the river became narrower as we moved away from the mouth. We also noticed the meanders and discussed the erosion and deposition.
Class 11 are the Accelerated Reading Superstars again this week with a whopping 26 books read!
Year 6 went to see David Walliams’ Billionaire Boy and we loved it!
Year 4 have been impressing again! 8 of our Year 4 pupils took part in the Quad Kids Athletics at Silksworth Sports Complex. They took part in 4 different events and tried their very very best.
Miss Stoker and Miss Williams were so impressed with their behaviour and their sportsmanship whilst taking part in the event. They were an absolute credit to the school. Well done Year 4!
