We had a very special visit from Angela’s Ark. Angela brought lots of animals into school for us to look at. We learnt about each animals habitats, adaptations and what they eat. We even got to hold them! we think the yellow crested gecko was our favorite, we loved when it jumped!
Year 1 joined Mr Woolley from Beamish on Monday afternoon to go searching for some toys. These toys were special because they are what children used in the past. There were no ipads, games consoles or computers! We had a fantastic afternoon playing with ‘cups and balls,’ flick books, Pick Up Sticks and marbles. Here are some of our photos.
We were very lucky to get to the Beacon of Light for a workshop on Show Racism The Red Card. We did lots of work on understanding what a hate crime is and the groups that can be affected. We also had a tour of the Stadium of Light and met some of the players! We came home with a very important message: racism
Year 6 had a visit from a Mayan gentleman to tell us all about life in the era. We learned some of the language, counted to 10, looked at methods of human sacrifice, had a food tasting and then acted out different Mayan scenarios-we had a great day!
We did some KS3 science to get us excited for our move to secondary school!
This week, we have bee learning about the United Kingdom. We know that it is made up of 4 countries, and all of the flags mixed together to make the Union Jack Flag. We have ‘visited’ each country; looked at their landmarks, capitals, flags and special flowers. Then we made a large United Kingdom map for our classroom. Well done, Year 1!
