Chinese New Year

Rabbit Chinese Zodiac: Meaning, Personality, Year & Best Match

新年快乐 Xīn nián kuài lè (Happy New Year)!

This week we have been celebrating and learning about Chinese new year. This year it is the new year of the rabbit. We have read lots of fiction and non-fiction texts about Chinese New Year and how it is celebrated. We have really enjoyed reading Dragon City and creating our own dragon to use in our dragon dance performance.

We have used google maps to locate China and we have talked about the weather and what the buildings look like. We have also looked at PowerPoints and pictures of how and why Chinese New Year is celebrated. We even spoke about the animals and had our own relay races in the hall.

We also had great fun learning and playing ‘sleeping dragons’ to the tune of sleeping bunnies.  We have been very creative this week and made our own red lantern decoration and dragon mask to take home.

On Friday, we enjoyed our Chinese food which consisted of curry, rice, noodles, spring rolls and prawn crackers.

In the home corner we have been exploring different clothing, and making our food. We have had lots of fun, take a look!
