Children’s Commissioner’s Takeover Day

takeover-logoTakeover Day is a national event led by the Children’s Commissioner for England. It offers children and young people the chance to work with adults and get involved in decision making.

The day provides an opportunity for children to experience the world of work.  The activities aim to promote self-esteem, confidence and help to break down the stereotypical barriers that exist between generations.

Friday 21st November 2014 is the eighth in a series of annual Takeover Days and the third year that Southwick Community Primary School has taken part.

This year we have had some really exciting ‘Takeovers’:

  • Gentootakeover-2
  • Sun F.M.
  • Sainsbury’s
  • Salvation Army
  • Keepmoat Construction
  • Southwick Neighbourhood Youth Project
  • New Beginnings Nursery
  • Centre Point
  • Grace House
  • Health Scented
  • Sunderland Libraries
  • Various roles in Southwick Community Primary School

All organisations providing safe environments to allow our Year 6 children to experience work life.

We have been lucky to have two children supporting the Deputy Mayor at an event at Roker and, for the second year, had the opportunity to take two children to the Children’s Commissioners event in London

Maggie Atkinson is the Children’s Commissioner for England.

Maggie was appointed Children’s Commissioner for England in 2010 and is the second person to hold this important post.

Part of her role is to ensure that adults who make decisions listen to what children say about the things that affect them.

Maggie will also bring matters that affect young people to the attention of local government and Parliament.
